Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flint and Genesee County is an affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, but is independently responsible for fundraising efforts to generate direct financial support to recruit volunteers, develop talent, defend, empower, and inspire the potential of Genesee County youth. The case for mentoring is supported by our evidence-based model. Big Brothers Big Sisters emphasizes that “Together, we can ensure more youth have a mentor to help them achieve their biggest possible future.”

Agency Vision:

All youth achieve their full potential.

Agency Mission:

Serving Genesee County since 1944 to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.

Our Programs:

Community-Based Mentoring

The mentors and youth develop life-changing relationships sharing simple activities, talking and having fun together. The mentorship requires 4-6 hours a month for a minimum of 18 months.

School/Site-Based Mentoring

The program provides structured one-to-one mentoring relationships between high school students or adult volunteers and elementary children.

100 Men 100 Boys

The group-mentoring program focuses on education, social development, cultural awareness, relationship building and healthy lifestyles.

My Sister’s Keeper Mentoring Program

Big Brothers Big Sisters hopes to address the gender achievement gap our young girls face by exposing them to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) activities and post-secondary/career options.

Bigs in Blue

Bigs in Blue is a one-to-one mentoring program that connects youth with police in communities throughout our nation, building strong, trusting, and lasting relationships.  These relationships can help children develop into confident adults and help build stronger bonds between law enforcement and the families they serve.
