Shirkey 2019 Art Van Charity Challenge

I have been involved with The NOAH Project of Detroit for more than 10 years as a Board Member, lunch preparer/server, Bowls of Hope soup chef, and all-around cheerleader.

I love this program for so many important reasons; we are a servant-leadership organization that provides an array of empowering services for Detroit’s homeless population, we coordinate services through partnerships with other local providers, we serve the whole individual in a respectful manner. Most importantly, we interact with each human being within their comfort zone, building trust as we get to know each other. 

A simple lunch, served with a smile, is the gateway to a variety of services. The NOAH staff members assist with medical, dental and prescription needs, haircuts, clothing, transportation, computer skills, own-a-bike repair classes, mail delivery, ID procurement and housing placement.
