Help Local Kids Being Treated at Beaumont Children’s by Giving to Extra Life

Extra Life is a national program of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals that empowers gamers to raise funds for their local children’s hospital.

Extra Life Detroit gamers play for Beaumont Children’s. Participants fundraise year-round, from weekend tournaments to gaming marathons. Since 2010, Extra Lifers have raised over $700,000 to help transform children’s lives with personalized medical care at Beaumont Children’s. By participating in Extra Life you are helping change kids’ health in Southeast Michigan.

Each year, the Extra Life community chooses a pediatric need at Beaumont Children’s to support. In 2023, Extra Life Detroit has a goal to raise $110,000 to support Child Life Services at Beaumont Children’s.

When you fundraise for Extra Life 100% of your donations stay local and directly impact kids in your community.

What is Child Life Services?

Extra Life Detroit has chosen to support Child Life Services at Beaumont Children's in 2023.

Certified Child Life Specialists are trained professionals in the developmental impact of illness and injury. Child Life Specialists help infants, children, youth and families cope with the stress and uncertainty of acute and chronic illness, injury, trauma, disability, loss and bereavement.

Child Life Specialists provide evidence-based, developmentally and psychologically appropriate interventions including therapeutic play, preparation for procedures, and education to reduce fear, anxiety, and pain. Child Life Specialists work with the entire family in an effort to meet the needs of patients, siblings, and parents alike to promote a culture of family-centered care throughout all hospital encounters.

The Child Life team at Beaumont Children’s includes 12 full-time child life specialists based in the Emergency Center, Oncology and Hematology, Surgery Center, General Pediatrics, Pediatric ICU and the Neonatal ICU. The team’s expenses are entirely funded by donations from Children’s Miracle Network.

How Do I Fundraise for Extra Life through the Rocket Community Challenge?

Fundraising for Extra Life is easy because it’s fun! Extra Lifers use games as a platform for giving. Many participants play video games, board games or RPGs.

Sign Up: Choose Extra Life Detroit as your charity of choice for the Rocket Community Challenge. Then, pledge to play games at home or online on any day that works for you.

Fundraise and Recruit: Ask family and friends to donate to your page and recruit your coworkers to support Extra Life with you!

Plan Your Game Day(s): Choose a day (or a few!) to play games, have fun and help kids at Beaumont Children’s.

Note: No need to create a separate fundraising page with Extra Life, unless you want to fundraise outside of the challenge!

What do I do on my Game Day?

It’s totally up to you! You can game from the comfort of your own couch, at your friend’s house, at a rec center—anywhere is fair game (Pun intended. Eyerolls permitted)! Lots of Extra Lifers organize big group events for the occasion and just as many pull out the sweatpants and snacks for a chill day at home. Stream your game online or keep it analog. It’s your fundraiser—do it your way!
